  • Sewing Instructor

Paula Hudson, a born-and-raised Austinite, has been sewing since she was eleven when her love for fabric arts first took hold. Her passion for historical costuming has led her to create intricate period garments, though she admits there aren't many opportunities to wear a full Victorian bustle gown and hat! She brings that same enthusiasm to all of her sewing, always keeping a long list of projects in the works.

With years of experience sewing for the dance and reenactor communities, Paula is an expert-level sewist, costumer, and tailor who believes in lifelong learning. She has taught individuals to sew in her home and enjoys helping students master pattern alterations, fabric manipulation, and garment construction. Her patient and encouraging teaching style makes her a great guide for sewists of all levels.

Hey, y’all! I’m Raeven K.

  • Sewing Educator and Founder of That’s Sew Austin

I have been sewing for over twenty-five years and have a BFA in Fashion Design from the Savannah College of Art and Design. While there, I constructed my solo luxe athleisure concept collection LOLLI. I have worked in the fashion industry and created custom garments for my own clients for years. This includes bridal, special occasion garments, gowns shown in Seattle and LA Fashion Week, cosplay, alterations, the occasional 20-foot geodesic dome, and winning Audience Choice at Comic-Con 2023, Her Universe Geek Couture competition.

I added teaching to my list of offered services ten years ago, and it is by far, my favorite way to share my love of sewing. I’ve taught our members everything from basic sewing skills, pattern making, concept building, and design, all the way to cosplay, historical restoration, draping, and many other fine sewing techniques. Each session follows a plan tailored to meet each student’s long-term learning objectives, building on their unique needs and skills. Working closely with students has given me the experience to effectively accommodate their learning needs, provide kind feedback, and help them define concise, achievable goals. I have taught children in elementary school and adults in their nineties, neurotypical and neurodivergent all from varying backgrounds.
